LARGER THAN LIFE

The SUPER GOLD 15 speakers sport 15” woofers that go all in on epic and larger-than-life sound. They excel at any music style that requires massive and punchy lows, while at the same time keeping the critical midrange clear and detailed and the highs silky-smooth and delicious. Modern R’n’B, Hip Hop and certain styles of Electronica and Rock immediately comes to mind. But of course they are also happy to take on any other type of music and will play it back gracefully.

DUAL CONCENTRIC PRESICION 

We invented the dual concentric speaker design in 1947, and it has been refined and improved continuously over the decades. With SUPER GOLD you get the very latest incarnation of this pristine design that has won critical acclaim over and over for nearly 70 years! 

With our Dual Concentric design, the woofer and tweeter are literally merged together, which positions them on the exact same axis, giving you best-in-class phase coherence. Since the sound is coming from the same point, it is a true point-source imaging scenario, and adding to that a spherical wave front that ensures an extremely even dispersion both vertically and horizontally, the SUPER GOLD’s off-axis performance is breathtaking. 

But what is the benefit when listening? You simply get a very wide and true sweetspot, which means that you don’t have to sit dead-center in front of the speakers to enjoy every single, subtle detail in the music. You can move around, or when you have company, everyone can enjoy listening even if they are not directly in front of the speakers.  

Finally, we constantly refine and improve our dual concentric design, and today we use modern ferrite with copper demodulation rings and high flux magnetic circuit, which perform even better than the original 1970’s Alnico design.

LISTENING FOR HOURS ON END 

SUPER GOLD passes on the sound that the artist and producer intended without artefacts. The goal was to create a truly neutral soundstage with zero sonic coloration, and as a result these speakers are very non-fatiguing, which means that you can not only get a full and rich listening experience from almost anywhere in the room, but also that you can listen for hours on end without wearing out your ears.

YOU’RE THE CO-PRODUCER

Sure, we have emphasized that SUPER GOLD is neutral and true to the how the artist wanted the music to sound. But some listening environments may benefit from a few minor adjustments. That is where you come in as the co-producer.

We fitted an easily-accessible, three-way energy control system on the front of the speaker that allows you to take control and compensate in case your listening environment calls for slight adjustments.

PLACE THEM ANYWHERE

The front-firing bass ports reduces the problem with bass traps emerging if a speaker is placed close to a wall or in a corner. While we definitely find SUPER GOLD as pleasing to the eye as it is to the ear, we also respect that placing your floor speakers far from the wall is not for everyone.

Well, the good news is that you can place them virtually anywhere you find meaningful in your living space – and regardless of where that may be, you’ll enjoy great sound.

You could even recess them in a wall, which in fact is a very common way for main speakers to be mounted in professional recording studios.

The 15” (380mm) Dual Concentric drive units are a natural but significant evolution of the classic 15” Dual, and incorporate an Alnico magnet system with an integral computer designed and manufactured reverse throat high-frequency PepperPot WaveGuide for exceptional transient response and increased sensitivity.

DCT CROSSOVER

The massive Westminster Royal GR crossover is meticulously hand-made by Tannoy engineers and comprises the finest audio components available today. Tannoy’s bespoke ICW ClarityCap MR capacitors, low loss laminated core inductors and thick-film resistors are hard-wired into the crossover with silver plated cable and high silver content solder.

EARTHING SYSTEM

A ‘hard edge’ cone surround and unique chassis earthing system deliver tight, fast and controlled bass with fluid and transparent midrange and high-frequency performance of great purity. Within the Westminster Royal GR cabinet, the new driver exceeds an 18Hz to 27kHz frequency response while boasting 99dB efficiency and 700W peak power handling.

ROOM FILLING SOUND

The magnificent 530 litre cabinet with the complex horn loading system delivers greatly increased efficiency with a wavefront area approaching that from real instruments. Effortlessly capable of resolving truly low frequencies and the reproduction of the dramatic dynamic range of musical instruments with stunning realism, this is a true Tannoy classic. The design sets a new benchmark for high-performance music reproduction and owes much of its evolution to TANNOY’s Kingdom Royal development project.

REVISED MATERIALS

The LF/MF cone material remains a paper-pulp base with fibres introduced into the mix to improve the stiffness to weight ratio. While previous flagship Duals were stiffened with natural capoc fibres, the Gold Reference Duals integrate a bespoke Tannoy synthetic fibre that delivers more uniformed mechanical integrity across the entire cone surface area. The result is effortless LF performance with outstanding speed and dynamic attack.

BREATH-TAKING ALL AROUND

With its new 15” Dual, DCT crossover and new terminal panel featuring latest WBT NextGen WBT-0703 speaker posts, musical engagement is delivered on the same breath-taking scale as visual splendour. With Tannoy’s High Frequency Power Switch for fine tuning output and a matching woven-cloth grille, Westminster Royal GR can be integrated into a wide range of rooms and décor. It is an effortlessly capable loudspeaker that honours the decades of Dual Concentric technology.

HAND-BUILT CABINET

The glorious Westminster Royal GR cabinet is hand built from the finest birch plywood by Tannoy’s most experienced cabinet makers. The complex, compound horn design and curved front baffle allow the 15” Dual to ‘breath’ like no other Prestige model, delivering truly realistic dynamics and musical integrity. The luxury oiled-wood walnut veneer on panels and inlays, the gold trim and return of the classic Tannoy lightning strike logo exude the regal class of bespoke furniture. Beautifully finished in walnut to the finest standard, these will be cherished for generations to come.

Tannoy Legacy Cheviot Speakers (Pair) is the smallest floorstanding model in the Legacy Series, sitting in between the Eaton and Arden designs. Like its brothers, the model pays homage to Tannoy’s much-loved HPD models from the 1970’s which set the standard for bringing studio sound quality into the home.

The Legacy range sits just below the Prestige range, and showcases a nod to the original Legacy series. The Cheviot enjoys added details such as a 12-inch driver and two band energy control with boost and accentuation control to fine-tune the speakers to their environment.

LEGACY REBOOTED

Hi-Fi fans have long loved the original HPD series of loudspeakers from 1974 thanks to their warm, tangible sound quality. Tannoy’s new Legacy collection lovingly recreates the visual aesthetic of its predecessor, which will instantly stir nostalgic feelings in Tannoy enthusiasts while attracting a new generation of fans.

There is a number of key improvements to be enjoyed, mainly involving the trim panels, terminals, the removal of the dust cap from the transducers and the switches.
